GESTALT:

A Night of Pieces

POSTPONED

@ the Welpe Theatre

RVCC Branchburg Campus

FREE!

Due to the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), the CDC recommendations to avoid gatherings, and the closure of Raritan Valley Community College facilities, GESTALT has been postponed to the Fall until further notice.
PLEASE follow us on Facebook and Instagram, or join our mailing list, to stay up to date. We have big plans moving forward, and we don't want you to miss them!

What are the different parts that make us who we are? GESTALT is a new RFDT solo show that asks this very question. Presented by the RVCC Department of Art and Design and produced by the director of the dance program, Loretta Fois, GESTALT takes the idea of "solo" and holds it to the light to reveal its many facets.

Gestalt is a psychological theory that describes how the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This hour-long evening digs into the many “parts” a singular dancer/choreographer simultaneously embodies: as a dancer performing their own work; as a dancer performing in someone else’s work; as a dancer performing with someone else; as a choreographer for another body; and a collaborator engaged in a long-distance creative process. As the show progresses and accumulates ideas, so too do things accumulate in the space and on the performers’ bodies.

GESTALT features old and new choreography by RFDT Artistic Director Nathan Forster, Marissa Aucoin/Format Dance of New jersey, and Michael D. Lee of California. The evening is a combination of past RFDT solo repertory, a world premiere solo by Forster, a commissioned world premiere duet by Aucoin, and a commissioned East Coast premiere by Michael D. Lee.
