The ReFrame Teachers
California native Nathan Forster brings an West-meets-East coast blend of somatics, biomechanics, and technical approaches to a class fully couched in experiencing the expressive range of dance. We will expand, twist, swing, flop, and bounce as we navigate what it means to inhabit our bodies from the inside out as dynamic entities full of infinite capacities. The role of class is not to decide what we can and cannot do, but to rediscover the ways in which movement feeds and inspires us. Currently Nathan is a modern dance company class teacher for ~mignolo~, teaches modern dance for the ~mignolo~ weekly class series, and teaches+directs ReFrame Dance Theatre. Nathan loves disco.
My teaching is akin to a creek joining a river. I understand that students already have perceived notions on what art, dance, and technique are, and try to join and let some of my knowledge, the creek, flow with them for a while. In class we will use different methods of giving/receiving information: verbal, visual and kinesthetic methods so that different students can access the information to discover new ways of learning. We will explore many different styles and techniques while honoring those who brought it to us. By the end of class, we will discover ways to tap into our aesthetics and human voices.
